The city of Cochabamba viewed from an urban feminist pespective

This work presents an initial exploration of the characteristics of feminist urbanism in the city of Cochabamba, Bolivia. Consequently, the research examines public spaces in Cochabamba through the lens of feminist urbanism, offering a new perspective on the city with a specific focus on women, particularly mothers, whose needs have traditionally been given lower priority as users of these spaces.

Discover

Our goal is to uncover both user pain and joy points within the online purchasing journey in the actual page. To achieve this, we leveraged various tools and methods to arrive at meaningful insights and results.

Introduction

Urbanism and feminist architecture are those that provide citizens with a dignified space, seeking to meet their needs and address their issues, making them feel a part of their own city. Similarly, it aims to eliminate the segregation that exists due to physical, social, economic, etc., differences.

Methodology

Problem

  • Men's Dominance in Public Space.

  • Currently, there is a lack of information that informs or speaks about what a public space should be like for women and mothers.

  • Spaces that are suitable for the physical and spatial needs of women in maternity conditions.

  • Lack of focus on women in public space.

Research question

Are the physical infrastructural conditions of public spaces such as squares, parks, and markets in the northern, central, and southern areas of the city of Cochabamba, both at the urban and architectural levels, adequate to meet the needs of women mothers in the 2019-2021 period according to the logic of feminist urban planning?

  • What is the condition of public spaces such as markets, parks, and squares in the northern, central, and southern areas of the city of Cochabamba at the urban and architectural levels?

  • At the architectural level, are the physical infrastructural conditions in public spaces in the city of Cochabamba adequate when viewed from a feminist urban planning perspective?

Hypothesis

There is an absence of facilities and infrastructure in public spaces such as squares, parks, and markets in the city of Cochabamba at both the urban and architectural levels that cater to the needs of mothers. This fact may lead to psychological or physical conflicts for women when they are within these spaces.

Justification

Does the city respond to the needs of all the people within it?

The way we build the city cannot be considered indifferent to inequalities related to gender relations, where one gender possesses more power and freedom than the other, thus generating asymmetrical spaces both in the public and private spheres in our city.
